York Teams Split With Cannon County; Come up Short at Cumberland County

The York Dragons and Dragonettes went on the road last week for trips to Woodbury and Crossville to take on Cannon County and Cumberland County, and took a split with the Lions and Lady Lions on Tuesday  and dropped two to the Jets and Lady Jets on Friday.

In the girls’ game at Cannon County, York jumped out to a 22-12 first period lead, but went cold in the second period, which allowed the Lady Lions to go on a 19-8 run to take a 31-30 halftime advantage.

Cannon County continued to pull away in the third period to go up 51-43 going into the final period, and then outscored York 23-19 in the fourth period to post the 12-point win, as they hit 13 of 15 free throws to post the 12-point win.

For the game, Cannon County hit 25 of 31 free throws, while York hit 12 of 16.

Harli Smith and Haylee Johnson shared scoring honors for York with 19 points each, with Hannah Conatser adding 8, Mikaela Reagan 5, Shelby Beaty 3, and Lilly Conatser, Amelia Hull, Carly Tipton, and Isabella Blevins adding 2 points each.

Maleah Scott led the Lady Lions and was the game’s leading scorer with 22 points, with Kristen Fann adding 14, Tori Knox and Anna Grace Sissom with 12 points each; Jessie Kauffman with 8, Olivia Walkup with 4, and Madison Gaither with 2 points.

In the boys’ game, it was close all the way, with Cannon County holding an 11-9 first period lead.

York came back with a 10-7 run in the second period, led by 5 points by Roger Meadows, to take a 19-18 halftime lead.

Led by Case Moody’s 10 points in the third period, the Dragons went on a 20-15 run to take a 39-33 lead going into the final frame, and held on to post the 2-point win.

Case Moody led the Dragons with 13 points, with Landrick Leffew adding 9, Luke Patton 7, Noah Smith 6, Roger Meadows 5, Caleb Christianson 3, and Isaac Peavyhouse adding 1 point.

Cannon County was led by Wade Love with 14 points, with Brandon Miles and Trey Fann adding 9 each, Lane Willis with 6, and Blake Bush and Dalton Hillis with 2 points each.

On Friday, December 15, the York teams traveled to Crossville for a rematch with Cumberland County, and came away on the short end of the score in both games, as the Lady Jets took a 59-40 win, and the Jets came from behind to take a 62-60 victory.

In the girls’ game, the Dragonettes took a 10-9 first period lead, only to see the Lady Jets go on a 21-12 run in the second period behind a 10-point effort by Addison Wilson, to take a 30-22 halftime advantage and never looked back, pulling away to a 50-35 lead going into the final frame, and cruising to the 19-point win.

Harli Smith led York with 13 points, with Haylee Johnson adding 10, Hannah Conatser 7, Amelia Hull 4, and Shelby Beaty, Mikaela Reagan, and Carly Tipton adding 2 points each.

Addison Wilson paced the Lady Jets with 19 points, with Kiara Wilson adding 12, Jessica Hedgecoth 8, Ali Smith 7, Shelbi Smith 6, Lauren Tabor with 5, and Marce Kerley adding 2 points.

In the boys’ game, it was close all the way.

York took a 20-15 first period lead behind 10 points by Noah Smith, but saw the Jets pull to within 1 at the half, 30-29.
