York Drops 2 Games To Stone Memorial

yai-ajn_9253After two Hall of Fame games on November 15 and 17, the York Dragons opened the “regular” season on Tuesday, November 22, hosting Stone Memorial in non-district action, and dropped both games to the strong 5-A teams.

In the girls’ game, after a relatively-close first period, the Lady Panthers went on a 26-11 second period run to pull away to a 45-22 halftime lead, and never looked back, enroute to a 72-36 victory over the Dragonettes.

Behind an 8-point first period performance by Tesa Johnson, Stone pulled out to a 19-11 advantage, and  Lexi Hinchand Alex Eldridge each added 8 points in the second period.

Stone continued to pull away in the third period, outscoring York 17-5, to hold a commanding 62-27 lead going into the final frame.  The Lady Panthers connected on seven 3-pointers in the game.

Stone had four players in double figures, with Alex Eldridge and Emma yai-ajn_9061Capps sharing scoring honors with 15 points each, with Tesa Johnson adding 12 and Lexi Hinch with 11.  Emily Boyd added 9, Faith Robinette 4, and Brittany Brun, Emalea Thompson, and Kara Davis each added 2 points.

York was led by Harli Smith with 10 points, while Brooke Copeland added 8, Lexi Smith 7, Hannah Conatser 5, Carly Tipton 4, and Maggie Wright 2 points.

With the win, Stone improved to 3-0 on the season while the Dragonettes dropped to 2-1.

yai-ajn_9586In the boys’ game, the Dragons were in control for most of the contest, holding a 15-8 first period advantage, led by Gareth Moody’s 6 points.

Damon Johnson had 5 points in the second period to help the Dragons pull out to a 27-15 advantage at the half, before the Panthers began chipping away at the lead in the third period to pull back to within 6 points going into the final period, 40-34.

The Panthers mounted a strong comeback effort in the final period, as Tristan Norman, Christan Velker, and Brett Newcome each bagged 3-pointers, to pull ahead late in the contest.

Norman also hit four straight free throws down the stretch to help the yai-ajn_9422Panthers pull away at the end to post the 5-point win, 55-50.

Isaac Peavyhouse led the Dragon scoring with 15 points, which included three 3-pointers, with Gareth Moody adding 14, Damon Johnson 6, Luke Patton and Jerry Murdock 5 points each, Case Moody 3, and Landrick Leffew with 2 points.
