World “Pig” Tourney Set For February 27th

Pig Tournament

It’s that time again. The 16th annual World Pig Championship will be Saturday, February 27 at the old Forbus General Store in Pall Mall, Tennessee, beginning at “High Noon.” Pig is a card game that has its origin in Pickett/Fentress Counties of the Cumberland Plateau. (It is similar to Rook).

Each game begins with the drawing of partners and the game lasts for approximately 30 minutes–some maybe 3 minutes, some 45 or more. After the first games are completed, we again draw for partners. No games start after 5:00 and we usually finish 9 or 10 games. In the past years, we have had as many as 100 players playing for the 5 hour period vieing for the crown of “World Champion”. Past winners include Ronnie Crabtree, Ricky Norris, Fred Johnson, Sheryl Buck, Mike Slaven, Robbie Moles, Brandon Smith, Sam Moon, Kenny Flowers, Daniel Crabtree, Doug Lamb, Bea Bolten, Ernest Beaty, Doc Sells and Carolyn Cope.

Steve Cravens is leading the pack to become “Rookie of the Year.” He has won it the past three years but Gary Rains (who came in 3rd the last two years) will be trying to de-throne Steve. We have had players from six states and one player, Hal Boles, makes his annual pilgrimage from Washington D.C.

Rules of the game are available at the store or e-mail a request to buckslodging@twlakes.com.

Everyone is welcome! Come learn the game, watch the action and enjoy the fresh smoked BBQ available.
