Services Held Nov. 1 For Jessie Goins, 82

Mr. Jessie Goins, age 82, of Jamestown, passed away Tuesday, October 28 at his home.

Mr. Goins was born December 18, 1931 in the Bert community of Cannon County, and attended the Bert Grammer School through the 8th grade.

He worked on the family farm and when he was 16 years old, took a job with the Colonial Corporation in Woodbury, sewing buttons.  He worked at Colonial from 1947 until when he was drafted into the U.S. Army on November 19, 1952.  He served in the Army in California for one year and 11 months, and was then sent to Korea where he served in the for another 17 months.

After being discharged from the Army in 1954, he returned to work at Colonial Corporation, where in late 1954, Colonial owner Leonard Freeman promoted Jesse to Stitching Room Foreman.

In 1958, Freeman asked Jesse to come to Jamestown and work for a week, and that week began Jesse’s 20-year career with Colonial in Fentress County.

He married Laura Franklin  of Jamestown on December 23, 1959.

In 1978, he left the Jamestown Shirt Factory  to manage Grimsley Manufacturing, which was also owned by Colonial, and stayed there until 1983, when he was asked to manage Clarkrange Manufact-uring, where he stayed until 1991 at which time he became semi-retired and worked briefly as manager of Park Mfg. in Jamestown.  In 1992, he took another position with Colonial in Manchester and worked there until he was severly injured in an automobile accident in 1993, which forced an end to his work career.

During the 1980’s, Mr. Goins was the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from Tennessee Governor Ray Blanton for exceptional contributions in advancing opportunities for handicapped citizens.

He was a founding member of the West Fentress Baptist Church in the seventies and remained a member of the church until his death.

He was also a member of the Jamestown Lions Club.

He is survived by son, Brent Goins of Jamestown, daughter, Kim Wright and husband Dennis of Jamestown; grandson, Brandon Wright and wife Marissa of Jamestown; sisters, Mary Lee Harrison and Peggy Ferrill, other relatives, and many friends.

Mr. Goins was preceded in death by his parents, John and Estelle Goins, wife, Laura Goins, granddaughter, Jessica Michelle Wright; brother, Bobby Goins; sister, Faye Goins Holt ,and two infant sisters.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 1, 2014 at the Mundy Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tommy Dundan officiating, with burial in the Fentress Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers included Donavan Wright, Mike Wright, Derwin Wright, Doug Upchurch, Stephen Franklin, and Brian Franklin.  Honoary pallbearers included Hollins Delk, Pat Sullivan, David Conatser, Robert Elmore, Don Wright, Ronnie Clark, and Tim Smith.

The Mundy Funeral Home of Jamestown, Tennessee was in charge of the services.
