Senior Bulldogs Win East Championship

Saturday, October 7, 2017, the Fentress County Senior Bulldogs defeated the Stone Memorial Panthers 29 – 14 in the MTYFC Eastern Division Championship.  The Bulldogs completely controlled the first half, holding the Panthers to a negative 11 yards.  The Panthers were able to score on their first drive of the third quarter and the excitement level was sky-high, as they were only down one score.  On the Panther kickoff the Bulldog coaches and players were ready to answer.  On a great call by the coaches and perfect execution by the players, the Bulldogs scored on a reverse and everyone could feel the spirit and drive go out of the Panthers.

The game began with the Bulldogs receiving the opening kickoff and scoring a touchdown on the 12th play with #5 Leffew running the ball in from 9 yards out.  Two additional points were tacked on with a pass from #5 Leffew to #28 Gunter to make the score  8 – 0 Bulldogs with five seconds remaining in the first quarter.

The Bulldogs kicked off and held the Panthers to three and out.  The Bulldogs took over on their own 19 yard line after the punt.  On the eighth play of the drive, #5 Leffew ran in a 46 yard touchdown and the Bulldogs led 14 – 0 with 1 minute and 30 seconds remaining in the first half.

The Bulldogs kicked off and once again held the Panthers to negative yards and took over on downs.  After one offensive play by the Bulldogs, the first half ended with the score Bulldogs 14 – Panthers 0.

The Bulldogs kicked off to start the 3rd quarter and the Panthers had their best drive of the game.  On the ninth play of this drive, the Panthers scored on a 3 yard pass for a touchdown.  Bulldogs still led 15 – 6 with 2 minutes and 52 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

The Panthers kicked off and the Bulldogs had the play of the game ready.  The Bulldogs scored on a 60 yard reverse by #21 Miller.  The Bulldogs increased their lead to 21 – 6 with 2 minutes and 32 seconds left in the third quarter.

The Bulldogs kicked off and the tough Bulldog defense stopped the Panthers after 4 plays and took over on downs.  The Bulldogs started another scoring drive and on the ninth play of the drive #22 Tallent ran in a one yard touchdown.  The Bulldogs converted for two more points with a pass from #10 Bilbrey to #12 Smith and the Bulldogs led 29 – 6 with 2 minutes and 37 seconds remaining in the game.

The Bulldogs kicked off and the Panthers scored after six plays on a 31 yard run.  The Panthers tacked on 2 more points with a pass play.  The Bulldogs led 29 – 14 with only three seconds remaining in the game. The Panthers kicked off and  the Bulldogs became the 2017 Middle Tennessee Youth Football Conference Eastern Division Champions with a 29 -14 win over the Panthers.

The Bulldogs play in the MTYFC Super Bowl next Saturday, October 14 against Smith Co. at 6:45 p.m. in Baxter, TN.
