School Board Meets In Busy Session Jan. 13

The Fentress County Board of Education met in regular monthly session on Monday, January 13, and took action on a number of items in a rather busy meeting.

Following the approval of the minutes of the previous meeting, a moment of silence was held in memory of Guy C. Pinckley for his dedicated support and contributions to public education in Fentress County.  Director of Schools Mike Jones said that Mr. Pinckley was truly a friend of education and will be greatly missed.

Following acceptance of the director’s report, the board took action on a number of items, including:

Under “Monetary,” they authorized the executive committee to advertise for bids for the last part of the York Elementary School roof and explore options for a new roof for Pine Haven Elementary School.

Next, they approved Fentress County’s differentiated pay policy which is mandated by the State of Tennessee.

They then passed part of the Collaborative Conferencing Memorandum of Understand-ing, along with a special education travel contract.

Under “New Business,” they passed on first reading a concussion policy which is mandated by the state, along with the Textbook Adoption committee.

They then approved the 2014-15 school calendar, approved a resolution to honor food service workers, and a resolution to ask the General Assembly to increase the caps on school buses.
