Red Ribbon Week Proclaimed For Oct. 29-Nov. 1

Recognizing the widespread problem of alcohol and drug abuse not only across this Nation, but across our state and our own county, the Fentress County Commission has joined with the Anti-Drug Coalition and other organizations in their participation of Red Ribbon Week, which has been set for October 29 through November 1.
The County Commission unanimously passed a resolution in their monthly meeting on Monday supporting the Red Ribbon Campaign, which was signed by all the commission members and County Clerk Marilyn Stephens.

The Proclamation reads:

WHEREAS, Alcohol and other drug abuse in this Nation have reached epidemic stages; and

WHEREAS, it is imperative that visible, unified prevention education efforts by community members be launched to eliminate the demand for drugs; and

WHEREAS, National Family Partnership (NFP) is sponsoring the National Red Ribbon Campaign offering citizens the opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to drug-free lifestyles (no use of illegal drugs, no illegal use of legal drugs); and
WHEREAS, The National Red Ribbon Campaign will be celebrated in Fentress County during Red Ribbon Week, October 29 through November 1; and

WHEREAS, business, Government, parents, law enforcement, media, medical, religious institutions, schools, senior citizens, service organizations, and youth will demonstrate their commitment to healthy, drug-free lifestyles by wearing and displaying red ribbons during this week-long campaign.

that the Fentress County Board of Commission does hereby proclaim October 29 through November 1, 2013, as RED RIBBON WEEK, for the county of Fentress and encourage its citizens to participate in drug prevention education activities,  making a visible statement that we are strongly committed to a drug-free Fentress County.

The proclamation was then signed by County Executive Frank Smith, County Clerk Marilyn Stephens, and all the County Commissioners.


Members of the Fentress County Anti-Drug Coalition and other organizations and volunteers joined with the Fentress County Commission on Monday night as the Commission issued a proclamation designating October 29 through November 1 as RED RIBBON WEEK in Fentress County in recognition of the widespread problem of alcohol and drug abuse.
