Radiothon Raises Over $21,000 For Rotary Club Childrens’s Shopping Spree

The annual Children’s Shopping Spree Radiothon, held Saturday, December 2 on  local radio stations WDEB and WCLC, was  again termed as “very successful,” raising over $21,000.

As the 2-hour fundraising event was winding down, an emotional Faye Stephens, who has coordinated the event for the past several years, expressed her appreciation to all those who had made pledges, commenting:  “As usual, I’m overwhelmed at all those who have again supported our Shopping Spree.   As I seem to keep repeating year after year, the people of Fentress County are the most generous folks in the world, and always come through to ensure  a lot of little kids have a happy Christmas,”

In addition to some 300 elementary school children, the Shopping Spree provides funds for some 80 head start students, foster children, and some needy high school students.

Pledges may be dropped off at Progressive Savings Bank on North Main Street for the next two weeks prior to the Shopping Spree on December 17.

Donations may also be mailed to Rotary Club Christmas Shopping Spree, P.O. Box 1004, Jamestown, TN 38556.

Mrs. Stephens explained the plan for the remainder of the project, stating:

“We have premission slips at the schools, and they will be returned next week so we can get everything in order.  Then, on Saturday, December 16, the day of the shopping spree, we need everyone who wishes to volunteer to be at the York Institute Cafeteria at 6:00 a.m. for in-service.

“It’s important that we get enough volunteers to chaperone the children, with the ideal situation to have a chaperone for each child.   We were blessed with a lot of volunteers last year, and it made the project go a lot smoother.”

“I guarantee that if you invest four hours volunteering for this project, it will be most rewarding four hours that you have ever spent or will ever spend.
