Assistant District Public Defender Tina Sloan was presented with the TN District Public Defenders Conference 2016 President’s Award for the East Tennessee region by District Public Defender and Past President Jeffery Harmon.

Tina is generally soft-spoken and gracious, but will fight like a cornered wildcat for her clients.  Her time in the 8th JD has been marked by hundreds of the “small victories” that we all fight every day.

Tina’s hard work and dedication is exemplified in her representation of a client charged with a 12 count indictment that went to trial and her client was acquitted on all charges. In the words of her exonerated client: “words can’t express how much I appreciate everything you have done for me.”

“We appreciate Tina’s hard work, daily dedication and real commitment to this profession”, says Leif Jeffers, District Public Defender, 8th Judicial District.  “We take great pride in the high quality of work we do every day for our clients, and Tina Sloan is a fine example of our work ethic.”

Mrs. Sloan is a 2006 graduate of Appalachian School of Law in Virginia, and a 1999 graduate of the University of North Carolina.  In 2008, Mrs. Sloan began working for the 8th Judicial District, comprised of Campbell, Claiborne, Fentress, Scott and Union counties.  She is the primary Assistant Public Defender for the people of Union County, and has successfully handled many appellate cases for the District.
