One Seriously Injured Wednesday In Car-Truck Accident on By-Pass

One person, identified as Jerry Cordes of Jamestown, was seriously injured in a two-vehicle traffic accident at the intersection of the Jamestown By-Pass and the Old Allardt Road (Rugby Avenue) on Wednesday, September 21, involving a 2004 Pontiac Grand AM, driven by Hailey Jones, and a 2001 GMC pickup truck, driven by Jerilyn Demory.  Mr. Cordes was a passenger in the Jones vehicle.

Mr. Cordes was a passenger in the Jones vehicle.

A 39-year-old Jamestown man sustained serious injuries on Wednesday, September 21 in a car-truck accident on the Jamestown By-Pass.

According to reports, the accident occurred about 11:00 a.m. at the intersection of the Highway 127 By-Pass and Rugby Avenue, involving a 2004 Pontiac Grand AM, driven by Hailey Jones, 21, of Jamestown, and a 2001 GMC Pickup truck, driven by Jerilyn Demory, 20, of Atlanta, GA.

Reports indicated that the Pontiac was traveling west on Rugby Avenue (Old Allardt Road), and was in the process of crossing the by-pass, when it pulled into the path of the southbound pickup truck, with the truck colliding into the passenger side of the Pontiac.

A passenger in the Pontiac, identified as Jerry Cordes, 39, of Jamestown, was entrapped in the wreckage and had to be extricated by technicians from the Fentress County Rescue Squad and the Fentress County Ambulance Service.

He was transported by ambulance to the hospital in Jamestown to an awaiting helicopter for transport to an out-of-town hospital for treatment of what was believed to be serious injuries.

Ms. Jones was transported by ambulance to the local hospital for treatment of less-serious injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck was not reported to be injured in the accident.

The driver of the Grand AM was cited for Failure to Yield the Right-of-Way and Violation of the Financial Responsibility Law.
