Virgil “Coffee” Bowden, Jr.

Virgil “Coffee” Bowden, Jr., age 83, of Jamestown, passed away Saturday, October 17, 2015 in the Signature Health Care of Fentress Co.

Mr. Bowden is survived by brother, Elroy Bowden and wife, Madeline; sisters, Justine Linder and Ann Beaty.

Mr. Bowden was preceded in death by parents, Virgil Bowden, Sr. and Alma Cooper Bowden; brothers, Carl Bowden and Ovid Bowden; sister, Elaine Davis.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mundy Funeral Home with Bro. Tommy Duncan officiating. Burial followed in the Sharp Place Cemetery. A Military Service was conducted at the graveside by American Legion Post 137. Pallbearers included Timmy Campbell, Gary Linder, Jim Linder, Johnny Tinch, Peanut Barnett, Nathanial Linder and Hugh Monday. Honorary pallbearer was Edd Linder.

Vickie Arlene Burgess, 63 of Rineyville, died Sunday, October 18, 2015 at her home. She was a native of Jamestown, TN and a member of New Horizon Baptist Fellowship. She was an Auxiliary member of the Gideon’s International and retired after 27 years from Hardin County Schools.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Shelby and Marie (Foster) Gunter.

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Joseph William Burgess of Rineyville; two sons, Daniel Burgess and wife, JoLee of Elizabethtown and Joseph W. Burgess, II of Lexington; one daughter, Melissa Morton of Elizabethtown; five brothers, Larry (Shirley) Gunter of New Mexico, Darrell Gunter, Johnny Gunter, Tommy Gunter and Gary Dale Gunter all of Jamestown, TN; four sisters, Mary Sue (Johnny) Brannon, Anna Lamb, Barbara (Greg) Nelson and Connie Jo Larimore all of Jamestown, TN and five grandchildren, Alexis Jade Burgess, Kristopher Chase Burgess, Kaleb Daniel Burgess, Michael Tyler Morton and Ethan Alexander Burgess.

The funeral was held Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at New Horizon Baptist Fellowship with Bro. Steve Hill and Bro. Dwayne Mollison officiating. Gary Randall Cooper, age 60, of Clarkrange, went home to be with the Lord on  Saturday, October 24, 2015 at his home surrounded by family after battling pancreatic cancer.

Mr. Cooper was born July 26, 1955 in Livingston, TN to Charles Edward Cooper and Zina Claudine Beaty Cooper. Gary was a graduate of Cookeville High School in 1973. He worked most of his career at Lakeland Electric Company in Cookeville, Tennessee as a commercial electrician and many years on projects at Perdue Farms in Monterey, Tennessee. With his first marriage to Janice Carter Cooper Blaylock, he had his daughter, Amber Cooper Hoffert, age 33. He later remarried to Dee Clark Cooper of Clarkrange where he spent the last wonderful 18 years of his life.

Mr. Cooper is survived by his wife, Dee Clark Cooper; daughter, Amber Cooper Hoffert and son-in law, Will; granddaughters, Kallie and Carmen Hoffert; mother, Zina Claudine (Beaty) Cooper; mother of his daughter, Janice Carter Cooper Blaylock; sister, Linda Cooper Massa; nieces, Melissa Honeycutt and Jenelle Harrington; and many loved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, cousins and friends that are as close as family.

Mr. Cooper was preceded in death by father, Charles E. Cooper and great niece, Hadley Honeycutt.

Gary lived a fun joyful life with family and friends. He loved to travel, hunt, golf, fish, bowling, play with his dog Bo, playing in the casino, and cruise as much as possible.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in Jennings Funeral Home South Chapel. Burial followed in the Jonesville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be left in Gary’s honor to be given to either The Hope Foundation of Fentress County or The Children’s Center of Fentress County. These can be received at Jennings Funeral Homes.

Brenda Garrett, age 68, of Jamestown, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at Signature Health Care of Fentress Co.

Mrs. Garrett was born September 6, 1947 in Fentress Co., TN. She was a self employed Florist.

Mrs. Garrett is survived by her husband, Charles Garrett of Jamestown; daughter, Shannon Garrett of Cookeville; sisters-in-law, Margie Ledbetter of Jamestown, Anna Broyles of Jamestown, and Vicky Kilby of Crossville.

Mrs. Garrett was preceded in death by father, Minvel Paul Copeland; mother, Alma Arlee (Wright) Copeland; brothers, Paul V. Copeland and Bobby Copeland.

Funeral services were held October 23, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in Jennings Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ed Walker officiating. Burial followed in the Potter Cemetery. Pallbearers included Thomas Broyles, Elliott Broyles, Houston McCloud, Ricky Moles, Tim Smith, and Keith Kennedy.

Darrell Gunter, age 59, of Jamestown, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Jamestown Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Gunter was born June 11,1956 in Dayton, OH. He was a heavy equipment operator.

Mr. Gunter is survived by wife, Karen (Dunford) Gunter of Jamestown; daughters, Cassidy Crabtree and husband, Darrell of McMinnville, Lynsay Gunter of Jamestown and Ashley Kearney of Jamestown; son, B.J. Price of Nashville; grandson, Jacob Boles; brothers, Larry Gunter and wife, Shirley of New Mexico, Johnny Gunter of Jamestown, Tommy Gunter of Jamestown, Gary Dale Gunter of Jamestown; sisters, Mary Sue Brannon and husband, Johnny of Jamestown, Anna Lamb of Jamestown, Barbara Nelson and husband, Greg of Jamestown and Connie Jo Larimore of Jamestown; also a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Mr. Gunter was preceded in death by father, Shelby Gunter; mother, Fransola Marie (Foster) Gunter; and sister, Vickie Arlene Burgess.

Howard Stockton, age 70, of Grimsley, passed away Monday, October 19, 2015 at the Cumberland House Hospice in Crossville.

Mr. Stockton is survived by ex wife, Joyce Stockton; daughters, Tina Smith and husband, Robert, Virginia Delk and husband, Tony, Dena Holt and Cynthia Norris and  husband, Brian; brothers, Wayne Stockton and wife, Nancy, Lanny Stockton and wife, Kathy, Bruce Stockton and wife, Doris; sisters, Alice Davidson, Peggy Starns and Margarett Guffey; sister-in-law, Carol Stockton; five grandchildren; special friends, Blake Joab Ledbetter, Emma Belle Howard, and Michael Scott Howard.

Mr. Stockton was preceded in death by parents, Martin Van Stockton and Roxie Davidson Stockton; brother, Jimmy Stockton.

Funeral services were held Thursday, October 22, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the South Chapel of Mundy Funeral Home in Clarkrange with Bro. Donnie Shelly officiating. Maskel Terry

Maskel Terry, age 92, of Jamestown, passed away Monday, October 19, 2015 at Signature Health Care of Fentress Co.

Mrs. Terry is survived by son, Dale Terry and wife, Imojean; daughter, Priscilla Smith and husband, Richard; brother, Dillard Watson and wife, Margaret; sister, Elsie Byrd and husband, Alfred.

Mrs. Terry was preceded in death by parents, Silar and Lillie Pile Watson; husband, Raymond Terry; son, Doyle Terry; daughter, Elsie Mae Ward; brothers, Lee Watson, Lewis Watson, Dennis Baley Watson, Jerry Watson, Elmer Watson, and Hilmon Watson.

Funeral services were held Thursday, October 22, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Upchurch Cemetery with Bro. Alfred Byrd officiating. Burial followed in the Upchurch Cemetery. Pallbearers included, Terry Smith, Lance Smith, Kevin Terry, Jim Watson, Nick Ward and Tim Simmons.

James Edward “Buddy” Wright

Mr. James Edward “Buddy” Wright, age 67, of Livingston, TN, passed away at the Livingston Regional Hospital on Friday, October 16, 2015.

Mr. Wright was born in Jamestown, Fentress Co., TN to the late Frank Sr. and Hettie Rose Hoover Wright. He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Rickman, TN and worked in construction. He also was a Vietnam Veteran and was awarded with 2 Purple Hearts.

Survivors include his wife, Faye Gillen Wright;  4 sons, Scott Wright, Kevin Duncan, Scott Kisor, and Chris Duncan; 3 sisters, Jean Ferrell of Livingston, TN, Sue Wright of Livingston, TN, and Betty Rose Koger; 3 brothers, Don Wright, Billy Wright, and Frank Wright Jr.; 8 grandchildren and 1 great -granddaughter.

Mr. Wright was preceded in death by his parents and 1 son, Nicky Wright.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 19, 2015 at 10:00 AM from the chapel of the Hall Funeral Home of Livingston with Honors provided by the James T. Davis Post 5062. Burial followed in the Smith-Linder Cemetery in Fentress Co. Officiating was Bro. Tim Wilson.

Hall Funeral Home of Livingston, Tennessee was in charge of services.

Margaret Peggy VarnadoeMargaret (Peggy) Anastasio Varnadoe

Margaret (Peggy) Anastasio Varnadoe of Knoxville departed this life peacefully on October 24, 2015, at the age of 64.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and nurse.

Born in Syracuse, New York, her family moved around until settling in Midland, Texas.  She then attended the University of Texas at Austin and worked at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston where she met her husband.  They then moved various times until residing in Knoxville where she was a neonatal nurse at UT, St. Mary’s, and Children’s.

Peggy was preceded in death by parents, John and Dorothy Anastasio.

Peggy is survived by her husband, Ed; brother and niece, John Anastasio and Daniella; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Chris Thompson; daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Matt Pulliam; granddaughters, Anna Claire, Madeline, and Lily Kate.

The family received friends Monday, October 26, 2015 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton.  Funeral service followed the visitation at Holley-Gamble with Rev. Scott Cagle officiating.  Her graveside was 11:00 am, Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at Grandview Memorial Garden.

Holley-Gamble Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Billy York, better known as “Chigger”, age 80, of the Banner Springs Community, passed away Friday, October 23, 2015 in the Jamestown Regional Medical Center.

Mr. York was born December 8, 1934 to Goldman and Zola LaRue York. He served four years in the United States Air Force. After returning home, he operated York’s Rolling Store. He was a partner with and drove a truck for York Brothers and later for Frogge and Williams. He has numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that he spoke of fondly.

Mr. York is survived by sisters, Amanda York Beaty and Nancie York Gunter and husband, Scottie; sister-in-law, Thelma Clark York; special friend, Janice Wright and her daughter, Stephanie Cole.

Mr. York was preceded in death by parents, Goldman and Zola LaRue York; brother, Bobby York; grandparents, George and Annie Lynch York; Norman and Amanda Stowers LaRue and Sadie Ramsey LaRue.

Funeral services were held Sunday, October 25, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at the Springs Chapel Methodist Church with Bro. Buddy Edwards officiating. Burial followed in the Spring Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers included B.J. York, Adam York, Larry Beaty, Ricky Boles, Josh Boles, and Darren Gunter.

Any remembrances may be donated to the Spring Chapel Cemetery fund.
