WILLARD CRAVENS

Willard Cravens, age 86, of Jamestown, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Jamestown Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Cravens is survived by wife, Dollie Allred Cravens; daughter, Margie Cravens; brother, Charlie Cravens; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Cravens was preceded in death by parents, Dennis and Ernie Cooper Cravens; son, Marvin Jessie Cravens; three brothers, Willie, Virgil and Quitman Cravens; and two sisters, Bertha and Hillie Simpson.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Mundy Funeral Home with Bro. Mark Tipton officiating.  Burial followed in the Coopertown Cemetery.  Pallbearers included Randall Simpson, Earl Simpson, Tyler Cravens, Randall Buck, Jacob Buck, Gary Cravens, Tollie King and Dennis Cravens.

Mundy Funeral Home of Jamestown, Tennessee was in charge of services.

 

Fonza Beaty

(POOR) BEATY

Fonza Ellen (Poor) Beaty, age 96, of Pall Mall, passed away Friday, February 21, 2014 at her home.

Mrs. Beaty was born September 24, 1917 in Pickett County, Tennessee.  She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Beaty is survived by three daughters, Lyllis Byrd and husband Danny, Phyllis Roysden and husband Charlie and Cheryl Beaty all of Pall Mall; son, Larry Beaty and wife Odesia of Pall Mall; daughter-in-law, Carol Beaty of LaVergne, TN; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; special niece, Hazel Crawford; and “Granny” Beaty to so many more.

Mrs. Beaty was preceded in death by parents, William Levi “Spike Bill” Poor and Mary Alice (Huddleston) Poor; husband, Harley Beaty; son, Doyle Beaty; three sisters, Helen Poor, Wonnie Williams and Nova Beaty; and four brothers, Edd, Travis, Willie and Ray Poor.

Funeral services were held Sunday, February 23, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Brown Funeral Chapel with Bro. Alan Dixon, Sister Billie Allen and Bro. Kenneth Clayton officiating.  Pallbearers included Kenny “Bear” Beaty, Jack Poor, Wayne Poor, Jody Evans, Brad Smith, Matt Pugh, Tommy Beaty, Tony Beaty and Teddy Russell.

Brown Funeral Chapel of Byrdstown, Tennessee was in charge of services.

 

PERRY SHELTON HATFIElD

Perry Shelton Hatfield, age 66, of Coalmont, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2014 in Alvin York V.A. Medical Center in Murfreesboro.

Mr. Hatfield was a native of Fentress County, TN.  He retired from the textile industry and was a Vietnam, U.S. Army Veteran and was a member of Black Horse 11th Armored Calvary, Troop L and a member of the V.F.W.

Mr. Hatfield is survived by his wife of 31 years, Emily Hatfield; sons, Barton Hatfield of Gainesville, FL, Perry Martin Hatfield of Ft. Laurderdale, FL, Michael Hatfield of St. Louis, MO, James B. Hatfield of San Diego, CA, Randy Geary of Nashville, Ralph Geary of McMinnville and Kevin Geary of Coalmont; sisters, Oma Jean Rogers of Dayton, OH and Betty Grogg of Rydal, GA; brother, Manson Hatfield of Pall Mall; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hatfield was preceded in death by parents, Curt and Ida Hatfield; three sisters, Floy Hatfield, Hazel Lawson and Alva Jean Flowers; two brothers, Jerry and Joe Hatfield; son, Bradley Geary; and grandson, Charles Geary.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. at the Foster and Lay Chapel with Reverend Mike Rigsby officiating.  Military honors will be provided by Sequatchie Valley Veteran’s Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fisher House located at the campus of the Alvin C. York V.A. Medical Center in Murfreesboro, TN.  The Fisher House offer shelter and support during a medical crisis for members of the Armed Forces, retirees, veterans and their families.  The address is: Fisher House, P.O. WENDELL H. JONES

Wendell H. Jones, age 71, passed away Monday morning, February 10, 2014, at I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

Mr. Jones was born November 2, 1942 in Jamestown, Tennessee.  He was an Army veteran who served in Germany.  Wendell retired from Warner Gear as a tool maker after many years of service.  He enjoyed working on old cars with his son, especially muscle cars and hot rods.  He loved riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and watching drag racing.

Mr. Jones was a loving father and was a kind-hearted man who gave anonymously to many charities.

Mr. Jones is survived by daughter, Beverly Waymire and husband Gary; son, David Jones and companion, Christine; six brothers and sisters, Cleon Jones, Pauline Wills and husband Jerry, Bill Jones, Patsy Mayse and husband Art, Sharon Hofherr and husband Phil and Brenda Salyer and husband Ron; four grandchildren, Caleb, Kian, Angel, and Gage Waymire; and twenty-four nieces and nephews.

Mr. Jones was preceded in death by parents, Bradley and Selma (Ward) Jones; grandson, Joshua Lee Hale; sister, Selda Rae Poor; brother, Bradley Jones Jr.; nephew, Todd Huddleston; great nephew, Josh Partin; and brother-in-law, Norman Poor.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. at Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, with Pastor James Johnson officiating.  Burial followed in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Meeks Mortuary and Crematory of Muncie, Indiana was in charge of services.

JOE MONROE PHILLIPS

Joe Monroe Phillips, age 60, of the Banner Springs Community, passed away Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Phillips was born June 22, 1953 in Anderson County, Tennessee.  He was a chimney sweeper.

Mr. Phillips is survived by four daughters, Elizabeth Pendergrass and husband Shane and Denise Adkins both of Jamestown, Michelle Carmack and husband Arron of Murfreesboro and Melissa Daughtery of Anderson Co., TN; three sons, Danny Adkins, Matthew Daughtery and Nathan Adkins all of Jamestown; three sisters, Betty Hill and husband Danny, Pat Linkes and husband Alan and Sherry Burgess all of Anderson Co., TN; two brothers, Therm Phillips and wife Robbin and Johnny Phillips both of Michigan; fifteen grandchildren; mother of his children, Barbara Adkins; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by father, E.G. Phillips; and mother, Polly (Powell) Phillips.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home with Bro. Sammie Dunford officiating.  Burial followed in the Springs Chapel Cemetery.  Active pallbearers included Shane Pendergrass, Arron Carmack, Nathan Adkins, Don Pendergrass, Danny Adkins, Matthew Daughtery and Sam Smith.  Honorary pallbearers included Jeremy Pendergrass and Jacob Pendergrass.

SHELBY JEAN STEPHENS

Shelby Jean Stephens, age 70, of the Banner Springs Community, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Stephens was born July 15, 1943 in Wilder, Tennessee.  She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Stephens is survived by husband, Donald Stephens of Banner Springs Community; two daughters, Bobbie Wilson and husband Shane of Jamestown and Donna Savage and husband Tim of Overton Co.; two sons, Larry Scott Stephens and Steve Stephens and wife Jinky both of Jamestown; sister, Deborah Duncan; two brothers, Frank Davis and Gary Davis; seven grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Mrs. Stephens was preceded in death by father, Chuck Davis; mother, Jean (Wilson) Davis; two sisters, Linda Davis and Auda Mae Cook; grandson, Joshua Stephens; and great-granddaughter, Irelyn O’Brien.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with Bro. Buddy Edwards officiating.  Burial followed in the Springs Chapel Cemetery.  Pallbearers included Josh Alsip, Chris O’Brien, Micah Linder, Chad Stephens, Josh Hatfield, Justin Norris, Leonard Duncan II and Frankie Davis.
