Jesse Leo Brown

Jesse Leo Brown, age 67, of Jamestown, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at Tennova Healthcare-Jamestown.

Mr. Brown was born October 5, 1950 in Jamestown, Tn. He was a logger.

Mr. Brown is survived by brothers, Johny Brown, Lanny Brown, and Roger Brown all of Jamestown; sisters, Wilma Lynn, Mary Lou Byrd, and Bettye Pearson all  of Springfield, TN; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

Mr. Brown was preceded in death by father, John Benton Brown; mother, Emma (Crabtree) Brown; sister, Zelma Hughes; and brother, Willie B. Brown.

The Family has chosen Cremation.

Jennings Funeral Home of Jamestown, Tennessee was in charge of the arrangements.

Hettie Gunter

Hettie Gunter, age 76, of Clarkrange,TN passed away Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Gunter is survived by sons, Kenny Gunter and Donald Gunter; daughter, Debbie Ledbetter & husband, Elmer; grandchildren, Courtland Ledbetter, Kenny Gunter, Ariel Gunter, Whitney Gunter and Thorne Gunter; sisters, Alice Conatser and Nettie Conatser; and eight great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Gunter was preceded in death by husband, Wesley Gunter; parents, Henry and Mary Shelton; children, Ronald Gunter and Patty Jo Gunter; brothers, Teddy Shelton, Collier Shelton and Jim Shelton; and sister, Betty Ford.

Funeral services were held Sunday, October 29, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mundy Funeral Home South Chapel in Clarkrange, with Bro. Michael Swallows officiating. Burial followed in the Spring Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers included Thorne Gunter, Brandon Nelson, Austin Gunter, Michael Conatser, Roger Shelton, Kenny Gunter, and Jeff Richards.

Mundy Funeral Home of Clarkrange, Tennessee was in charge of the services.

Florene Mathis

Funeral services for Mrs. Florene Bilbrey Mathis, age 80, of Hoover, and formerly of Cookeville, were held Monday, October 30, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home in Cookeville. Rev. Jim Rogers officiated. Internment followed at Salem Cemetery.

Florene went home to be with the Lord October 26, 2017. She was born August 24, 1937 to the late John Morgan and Frances Lucinda Dunavin Bilbrey.

She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Ohio, and her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Alabama. Mrs. Mathis was a proud elementary and middle school teacher in both Ohio and Alabama. She retired from Bluff Park Elementary School in Hoover. Florene was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Vestavia Hills, AL where she taught bible study. She served as Vice-Regent of the Sunset Rock Daughters of the American Revolution chapter in Birmingham, AL. An avid genealogist, she traced her family heritage from Ireland to the seventeenth century and beyond. She also served as Chairman of the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation in Birmingham which she also helped found. Florene enjoyed playing the piano and was a member of her local community garden club.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Robert Edward Bilbrey, and infant John Morgan Bilbrey Jr..

Survivors include her loving husband of sixty-three years, John Ernest Mathis; daughter, Carol Anne Yarbrough; son, John Kevin (Debbie) Mathis; two grandchildren, John Landon (Megan) Mathis and Elizabeth (Jonathan) Sisson; great-granddaughter, Maelee-Jane Mathis; and brother, George Leonard (Betty) Bilbrey.
