Bro. Leonard Brown

Bro. Leonard Brown, age 65 of Jamestown, TN passed away Sunday, May 14, 2017 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Bro. Leonard Brown is survived by wife, Margaret Crabtree Brown; daughters, Shannon Stephens & husband, Ben and Misty Voiles & husband, Kim; grandchildren, Cody Stephens & wife, Tesia, Caleb Stephens, Rylie Tompkins, Tyler Voiles, and Taylor Voiles & wife, Kayla; great-grandchildren, Kyelynn Stephens and Kayson Voiles; brother, Larry Brown & wife, Brenda; sisters, Linda Morgan & husband, Jackie, Brenda Brown, Gail Kilby & husband, Jim, and Melissa Campbell; and special niece, Jay Hurst.

Bro. Leonard Brown was preceded in death by parents, Carson and Jewell Dean Brown.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Mundy Funeral Home in Jamestown, TN with Bro. Tommy Winningham, Bro. Junior Bilbrey, Bro. Mark King and Bro. Harvey Peters officiating. Burial followed in the Brown Cemetery. Pallbearers included Rylie Tompkins, Cody Stephens, Caleb Stephens, David Wilson Hurst, Rodney Cook, Charlie Pryor, Darrell Evans, Larry Brown, and Braxton Brown.

Mundy Funeral Home of Jamestown, Tennessee was in charge of the services.

Franklin D. Hargis

Franklin D Hargis, age 58, was born on July 26, 1958 to Franklin and Opal Hargis in Crossville, TN and passed away in his home in Grimsley, TN on May 18, 2017. He was a mechanic who enjoyed his job working on semi trucks.

He was a loving family man survived by his wife- Lisa Hargis; parents- Franklin D. Hargis and Opal Helen York Hargis; daughter- Nicole Cravens; grandchildren- Nolan and Hank; brothers- Barry, Ritchie and Joel Hargis; and sisters- Linda Stevens, Wanda Abblett and Vickie England.

The family received friends at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 on Friday, May 19, 2017 with service held on Saturday, May 20  at 2:00 pm. He was laid to rest in Springs Chapel at Banner Springs. Bro. Mike McCoy officiated.

Crossville Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. of Crossville, Tennessee was in charge of services.

Edaline (Gable) Jones

Edaline (Gable) Jones, age 65, of Grimsley, TN passed away Friday, May 12, 2017 in Crossville, Tennessee.

Mrs. Jones was born November 28, 1951 in Alabama. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Jones is survived by sons, Benson Jones & wife, Diane and David Jones II; grandson, Josh Jones; granddaughter, Katherine Mepham & husband, Nick; grandson, David Jones; granddaughter, Tiffany Wright and Brandon Stephens; grandson, Dakota Wright and wife, Haleigh; granddaughters, Ashley Jones & husband, Ricky, Olivia Jones and Bailey Jones; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Kathy Smith, Vickie Marable, Ophelia Allen, Jeannette Sims, and Barbara Gilbert.

Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by husband, David Jones,; father, Ben Gable; mother, Olivia Victoria (Murdock) Gable; daughter, Dawn Wright; granddaughter, Brittany Wright; sisters, Melba Porter and Linda Barlett.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in  Jennings Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Curtis Cravens officiating. Burial followed in the Springs Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers included Dakota Wright, Brandon Stephens, Josh Jones, David Jones, Nick Mepham, and Benny Jones.

Roger Slaven

Roger Slaven, age 62, of Jamestown, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Tennova Healthcare-Jamestown.

Mr. Slaven was born October 20, 1954 in Jamestown, TN.

Mr. Slaven is survived by family, James and Brenda Beaty; very special friends, David Poynter, Kim Capps, Ken Taylor, Danita Cottle, Lucinda Washman, Lora Flowers, Lonnie Shrock, Nelson Young, Evelyn Crabtree, Christopher Stockton, Stephanie “Daphne” Hendrix who he called his girlfriend; very special nurse, Donna Winningham; a very supportive person, Anita York,; Geneva Beaty, who he called Grandma; a host of nurses and friends. Special Thanks to Quality and Quality Nurses, Access and Access Nurses, IOI, Randy Fultner and Sarah Munchner.

Mr. Slaven was preceded in death by lifelong friend, Johnny Crabtree.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 19, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Jennings Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Greg Voiles officiating. Burial followed in the Taylor Place Cemetery in Jamestown, TN. Pallbearers included Barbara Miller, Mandy Smith, Lisa Conatser, Kenneth Young, Donna Winningham, and Christopher Stockton.

Melvin Kelly Taylor

Melvin Kelly Taylor, age 75 of Cleveland, TN formerly of Jamestown, TN passed away Saturday, May 13, 2017 in Cleveland, TN.

Mr. Taylor is survived by sons, Harlan Taylor & wife, Blair, Jamie Taylor, Dana Taylor & wife, Pam, Duyan Taylor, Steve Taylor & wife, Rhonda and Greg Gilbert & wife, Teresa; daughter, Trishia King  & husband, Paul; brother, Pete Taylor & wife, Ella; sisters, Patricia Bertram  & husband, Mitchell and Jimmie Webb & husband, Kenny; nephew and lifelong friend, Randall Taylor; grandchildren, Amanda Mullinix, Randall Taylor, Darrin King, Jessica Cook, Leigha Taylor, Andrew Taylor, Hayden Taylor, Kellie Taylor, and Cameron Taylor; great grandchildren, Tucker Mullinix and Logan King.

Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by parents, James Walter and Clara Jane Taylor; brothers, Ralph, Lonnie, James Jr., Tom, and Eugene Taylor; sisters, Irene Sweraingen and Lee Smith.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at Mundy Funeral Home with Pastor Dale Cox and Bro. Kevin Baz officiating.

Bernice Ashburn Young

Bernice Asburn Young was called to her heavenly home on May 17, 2017. She passed at her home surrounded by her family.

Bernice was born August 7, 1918 in Cook Place, Fentress County, TN to Abraham and Dice Stephens Franklin. She married Elmer Jackson Ashburn on June 23, 1933. The lived in Clarkrange, TN and together raised 7 children. They were married for 49 years until his death in 1982. She later married Walter Young and they resided in Rockwood, TN where she lived until her death. She was a member of Clymersville Baptist in Rockwood.

She was preceded in death by her parents, along with her two husbands, three brothers; Luster, Leslie and Edward Franklin; two sisters, Laura Franklin Harris and Louie Franklin Smith; three sons, Ezra, Kenneth and Robert Ashburn; son-in-law, Hershel Hall; three grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a great-great-granddaughter.

Left to treasure her memories are son, Elmer Ashburn, Jr. (Charlene) of Knoxville; three daughters, Lola Hall, Barbara Criswell (Gene) of Muncie, IN and Peggy Young (Ron) of Piedmont, SC; as well as 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by daughters-in-law, Sara and Carol Ashburn of Muncie, along with Nancy Ashburn of East Wareham, MA.

The family thanks Juliana Schmitt of Covenant Hospice for her care and assistance during Bernice’s recent sickness and passing, in conjunction with Dr. John Belifz and his staff for their patience and professional care. Special thanks to Carl Skidmore for being a loyal Family Deacon, Richard Montgomery for being a special neighbor and the staff of SCHAS for their care of Bernice during her last months.

The family received friends at Evans Mortuary in Rockwood from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. E.T., Saturday, May 20, 2017. Receiving of friends at Clarkrange was held at Mundy Funeral Home on Sunday, May 21 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. CT. The memorial service and burial followed. Bro. Charles Kelley officiated. Pallbearers included Tim Ashburn, Jackie Ashburn, John Ashburn, Harvey Hall, David Hall, Lee Ashburn, Mark Criswell, and Kenny Criswell.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Clymersville Baptist Church, P.O. Box 595, Rockwood, TN 37854.
