RICHARD BEATY

Richard Beaty, age 54, of Jamestown, passed away Friday, March 29, 2013 at Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville, TN.

Mr. Beaty was born November 13, 1958.

Mr. Beaty is survived by two step-sons, Ryan Meadows of Livingston and Jason Meadows of Jamestown; brother, James Keith Beaty and wife Mary of Des Moines, Iowa; sister, Billie Jean Adkins and husband Steve of Bowling Green, KY; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Beaty was preceded in death by parents, Bill Beaty and Vella Mae Darnell; brother, Kenneth Asby Beaty; and niece, Sarah Beaty.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 1, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Mundy Funeral Home with Bro. Ryan Meadows officiating.  Burial followed in the Taylor Place Cemetery.  Pallbearers included Jason Meadows, Ryan Meadows, Doyle Jones, Darlene West, Jimmy Beaty, Jeffrey Beaty and Ashlee Adkins.

DORIS EMMA JEAN MOLES BURDEN

Doris Emma Jean Moles Burden, age 67, of Byrdstown, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Livingston Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Burden was born May 2, 1945.

Mrs. Burden is survived by brother, Powell Moles; sister, Bessie Nicholas; uncle, Thurman Moles; special nephew, Patrick Garrett; special niece, Michelle Guffey; special friend, Betty Bowden; and several other nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Burden was preceded in death by husband, William H. Burden; son, Arnold Burden; parents, Delmer and Cora Dolly Manis Moles; brother, Jack Moles; two sisters, Nell Bell and Aleta Moles; and two nephews, Roger and Ricky Mullins.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Mundy Funeral Home with Bro. Ricky Cross officiating.  Burial followed in the Reedertown Cemetery in Byrdstown, TN.  Pallbearers included Robbie Moles, Jimmy  Moles, Curt Walker, David Dowdy, John Dowdy, and Patrick Garrett.

WILLIAM A. CAPPS

William A. Capps, age 71, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2013.

Mr. Capps was born February 20, 1942 in Deer Lodge, Tennessee. Bill retired from General Motors in Hamtrack, Michigan after nearly 35 years of work as a plumber and pipe fitter.  He served his country as a paratrooper in the Army for 4 years after enlisting at the young age of sixteen.  Bill received his Associate in Applied Science Degree with honors from Schoolcraft College in Livonia, Michigan.  Bill was a quiet and humble man who loved the Lord.  He was a very devoted father and grandfather.

Mr. Capps is survived by two daughters, Tammy “Sammy” Ratcliff of Crossville, Tennessee and Tanya “Sissy” Brien of Orlando, Florida grandchildren, Dr. Stephen “Buckshot” Denny, Jerrod “the Bear” Albright, Amanda “Mandy” Denny, Haylin Ethridge, affectionately known as “the Brat”; great-granddaughter, Oriauna Albright; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Mr. Capps was preceded in death by parents, Mary Houston Capps and Benjamin Capps; three brothers, Bruce, Arnold, and Hubert; son-in-law John Ratcliff; significant other, Wanda Richards.

Funeral services were held at Saturday March 30, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. at Union Grove Church in Glades, Tennessee with Brother Perry Spurling officiating.

James CobbJAMES ALLEN COBB

James Allen Cobb, age 72, of Jamestown, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Signature HealthCARE of Fentress County.

Mr. Cobb was born in Fentress County on October 18, 1940 to the late Vonnie Pennycuff Cobb and Proctor Garfield Cobb.  He was a member of Jamestown Church of Christ.

Mr. Cobb grew up in the Popular Cove Community and attended Campbell Elementary School and York Institute High School.  In 1959 James entered the U.S. Army and served much of three yeas in Germany.  While in Germany, he learned his trade of communication.  James and his crew guarded the borders between Germany and Russia to make sure the German border was kept safe.

After returning to Tennessee, James married Peggy Ann Knight at the Church of Christ in Crossville on January 25, 1963.  For 10+ years, James worked as a lineman for Twin Lakes Telephone Company.  He then continued work in communications with Halsell Installation and Nortel Networks until retirement.  These latter two positions gave James and his family in the summer, unforgettable opportunities to travel the Midwest and Southeast.  He loved to garden while in Jamestown, however, he had a special fondness for vacationing in Florida whenever he could, especially after retirement.

Mr. Cobb is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Ann Knight Cobb; two sons, James Vance and Vincent Allen and wife Lisa; two grandchildren, Tyler Allen Cobb and Carson Orion Cobb; two brothers, Jack Cobb and wife Nana and Virgil Cobb and wife Loretta; two sisters, Jean Pinckley and daughter Caroline and Carol Owens and husband Donald with their son,  Donnie Gene and his family; special aunt, Kathleen Pennycuff and children from Warren Robbins, Georgia.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Mundy Funeral Home with Bro. Tommy Duncan and Bro. Phil Adams officiating.  Burial followed in Fentress Memorial Garden.  Pallbearers included some of James’ favorite workers in the telephone work, they were: Trent Carr, Steve Demps, Gerald Duncan, John Halsell, Dwayne Harness, Earl Hunt, Luster Posey and Phillip Ward.  Honorary pallbearers included Earl Knight, John Knight, Scott Knight, Donald Owens, Donnie Gene Owens, Greg Qualls, Marc Upchurch, Mike Upchurch, Dayton Wright and Jack York.

Larry Wayne “Fuzz” Crabtree, age 56, of Jamestown, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at his home.

Mr. Crabtree was born October 5, 1956 in Fentress County, Tennessee.  He was a logger.

Mr. Crabtree is survived by wife, Sherry Crabtree of Jamestown; daughter, Jessica Crabtree and fiance Frankie of Jamestown; son, Jacob Crabtree of Jamestown; step-son, Jason Rich; step-daughter, Amanda Gunter; mother of his children, Melissa Watson; two grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; one step-great-granddaughter; two brothers, Gerald Crabtree of Allardt and Jerry Crabtree of Jamestown; and two sisters, Linda Miller of Allardt and Lisa Hicks of Jamestown.

Mr. Crabtree was preceded in death by father, William Price Crabtree; mother, Etta Crabtree; and three sisters, Carolyn Cooper, Frances Crabtree and Brenda Kaye (Crabtree) Ramsey-Duncan.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 29, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home with Bro. Richard Voiles officiating.  Burial followed in the Terry Cemetery. Pallbearers included Jonathan Watson, Jason Rich, Jason Crabtree, Tim Ramsey, Chris Ramsey, Rodney Hicks, Martin Brown and Frankie Conatser.  Honorary pallbearers included Jacob Crabtree, Gerald Crabtree, Jerry Crabtree, Steven Crabtree and Logan Gunter.

ARTHUR CROUCH

Arthur Crouch, age 68, of Banner Springs, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Jamestown Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Crouch was born May 23, 1944 in Fentress County, Tennessee.  He was a bond bearer.

Mr. Crouch is survived by wife, Kathryn (Taylor) Crouch of Banner Springs; two sons, Kenneth Harold Crouch and wife Clarissa of Jamestown and Billy Wayne Crouch and wife Tonya of Banner Springs; five grandchildren; and brother, Henry Crouch of Banner Springs.

Mr. Crouch was preceded in death by father, Alton Timothy Crouch; mother, Edna Agnes (Norris) Crouch; brother, Elmer Crouch; and two sisters, Evella Terry and Edna Lee Tinch.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Clarkrange Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home with Bro. Kevin Whittenburg officiating. Burial followed in the Springs Chapel Cemetery.  Pallbearers included Devin Myers, Donnie Crouch, Tyler Crouch, Zachary Honey, Scott Owens, Roy Lee Cravens and Darrell Crouch.

Betty Jo Jones PicBETTY JO JONES

Betty Jo Jones, age 78, of Westland, MI formerly of Clarkrange, passed away Friday, March 29, 2013 at Garden City Hospital in Garden City, MI.

Mrs. Jones was born March 2, 1935 in Deer Lodge, Tennessee.  She worked for General Motors.

Mrs. Jones is survived by three sons, Doyle Jones of Plymouth, MI, Tom Jones and wife Sandy of Cookeville and James Jones and wife Sandy of Westland, MI; two daughters, Nellie and Bill Clark of Clarkrange and Debra Painowski and husband Steve of Garden City, MI; fifteen grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by husband, Earchel Jones; son, David Jones; father, Joe John Norris; and mother, Mable Durham.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in the Clarkrange Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home with Bro. Billy Durham officiating.  Burial followed in the Durham Cemetery.  Pallbearers included Keith Painowski, Brent Jones, Kyle Jones, Mike Jones, Calvin Richards, Kurt Davis and Carson Conatser.

Charles “Herbie” LaRue, age 69, of the Banner Springs Community, passed away Friday, March 22, 2013 at Jamestown Regional Medical Center.

Mr. LaRue was born February 5, 1944.

Mr. LaRue is survived by wife, Reba LaRue; son, John LaRue; two daughters, Penny Leffew and husband Ricky and Sheila Lane and husband Ricky; two brothers, N.C. LaRue and Nolan LaRue and wife Nancy; three sisters, Marilyn Stephens, Judy Poore and Teresa Crisp and husband Jerry; four grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; special nephew, Lynn Poore; and friends of the Banner Community Center and Miller’s Feed Store.

Mr. LaRue was preceded in death by parents, Otis and  Clella LaRue; father-in-law, Hershel Perry Atkinson; and two brothers-in-law, Hollis Poore and Asburn Stephens.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with Bro. Buddy Edwards officiating.  Burial followed in the Spring Chapel Cemetery.  Pallbearers included Scott Stephens, Curtis Hall, Cody Hall, Tracy Edwards Jr., Taylor Edwards, Dana Ashburn, David Pyle and Gerald Buttrey.

CHARLES ROSS LEE

Charles Ross Lee, age 80, of Pikeville, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Cumberland Medical Center.

Mr. Lee was born July 12, 1932 in Pikeville, Tennessee.  He was a farmer.

Mr. Lee is survived by brother, J.D. Lee and wife Jamie of Crossville; sister, Rebecca Scarbrough and husband Walt of Oak Ridge, TN; step-son, Lloyd Potter and wife Patsy of Jamestown; two step-daughters, Brenda Ramsey and husband James and Cheryl Black and husband Robert both of Jamestown; five step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; two nephews; one niece; and a host of friends.

Mr. Lee was preceded in death by wife, Gladys Lee; father, James William Ross Lee; mother, Mary Rebecca (Barnett) Lee; and step-son, David H. Potter.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church in Melvin, TN with Bro. Doyle Ashburn officiating.  Burial followed in the Allardt Cemetery.  Pallbearers included Jordan Black, Mandy Dishner, Melissa Asberry, Evan Potter, Hoyt Swafford, Steve Lewis and Chuck Essex.

ENLOE LOOPER

Enloe Looper, age 101, of Monterey, passed away Monday, April 1, 2013, at the Standing Stone Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Looper was born April 26, 1911, in Overton County, Tennessee, to the late Billy and Mollie Bowman Looper.  He was a farmer and a membr of the Crossroads Freewill Baptist Church.  He was an avid horseman and loved showing horses.  He rode in numerous horse shows and rode in the Hanging Limb Horse Show after the age of 100.  He was known for raising sweet potato slips and for selling sweet potatoes.

Mr. Looper is survived by daughter, Janice Brown and husband Doug of Columbia, TN; son, Philip Looper and wife Cathy of Springfield, TN; two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Looper was preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Molly Bowman Looper; wife, Conley Phillips Looper; four sisters, Cora Norrod, Laura Roberts, Hallie and Martha Looper; and three brothers, Tommy, Winton, and Talmadge Looper.

The family will receive friends at Goff Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held  Thursday, April 4, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Goff Funeral Home with Rev. Willie Anderson and Rev. Steve Looper officiating.  Burial will follow in the Welch Memorial Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Hoyt Miller, Marson Roberson, Mike Looper, Raymond Looper, Hobert Hicks, and Donny Roberts. Honorary pallbearers will be Puter Melton and the staff at the Standing Stone Care and Rehabilitation Center who were his caregivers.

ARLON NICHOLAS

Arlon Nicholas, age 75, of Byrdstown, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at the Livingston Regional Hospital.

Mr. Nicholas was born June 24, 1937.  He worked at the Pickett County Highway Department from 1986 until his retirement in 2006.  He was a veteran of the National Guard.

Mr. Nicholas is survived by wife, Bessie Moles Nicholas; sister, Christine Medley; two brothers, Amos Nicholas and wife Isabella and Noble Nicholas and wife Edith; sisters-in-law, Yvonne Nicholas and Emma Burden; brothers-in-law, Powell Moles and Walter Gaither; special friend, Jerry Franklin; and several nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.

Mr. Nicholas was preceded in death by parents, Joe and Bercelia Poore Nicholas; three sisters, Sarah Cooper, Delina Gaither and Edith Smith; and four brothers, Virgil, Paul, Roosevelt and Holden Nicholas.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 29, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Moodyville Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Ricky Cross and Bro. Royce Huddleston officiating.  Burial followed in the Story Cemetery in Byrdstown, TN.  Pallbearers included George Nicholas, Jackie Gaither, Jerry Franklin, James Amos Martin, Jimmy Nicholas and Jim Thompson.
