Nicolas Smith Selected for Ripken Futures Game In Aberdeen, Maryland

Nicolas Smith of Jamestown has been selected to participate in the Ripken Futures Game sponsored by Under Armour to be held in Aberdeen, Maryland in August.

Nicolas is the 12-year old son of Brandon and Mahaliah Smith of Jamestown, TN.  Nicolas currently plays for the Redstitch 108 12U Major baseball travel team out of Knoxville, TN.  Nicolas’ positions include Pitcher, Center Field, and First Base.  Nicolas bats left and throws left.  Nicolas will be in 7th Grade at York Elementary this fall.

Major League Baseball legends David Justice and John Franco will manage the 2016 Ripken Futures Games, powered by Under Armour.

Ripken Baseball announced on June 16 the 2016 Ripken Futures Game Powered By Under Armour will be hosted at the Ripken Experience Aberdeen Powered By Under Armour youth comples on Saturday, August 6 at 3:00 p.m. EST.  The Ripken Futures Game Powered By Under Armour will feature 24 of the nation’s top 12-year-old youth baseball talents.  Fans can watch the game live on MLB.com.

“The Ripken Futures Game Powered by Under Armour provides some of our nation’s top youth ballplayers with a unique opportunity to perform on a national level,” said John Bramlette, executive vice president of amateur baseball, Ripken Baseball.  “Our brand is dedicated to helping all athletes elevate their potential both on and off the field.  Together with Under Armour, we can provide the upcoming generation of youth baseball players with the tools to push the game to the next level.”

Team Passion, managed by two-time World Series Champion and 1990 NL Rookie of the Year David Justice will play host to Team Committment, under the guidance of four-time All Star and three-time NL saves leader John Franco.  The Ripken Futures Game Powered By Under Armour will be played on Cal, Sr.’s Yard, a two-thirds replica of Camden Yards, and followed by the World Championship game of the 2016 Cal Ripken World Series.

“I’m excited to coach the Ripken Futures Game Powered By Under Armour because it gives me an opportunity to share the wisdom and knowledge that I gained throughout my baseball career,” said Justice.  “Youth baseball is the future of today’s game, and getting more kids involved and playing is crucial to the sport’s success.  There’s so many great lessons that come from playing baseball.”

“Youth baseball has given me everything that I have today, which is why it’s so important to get out there and keep baseball alive,” said Franco.  “I’ve had a long career and youth baseball is where it all started.  By coaching these young ball players, I feel like I’m able to give back all that the game has given to me.”

The 2016 Ripken Futures Game Powered By Under Armor roster was selected by a committee that includes personnel from Ripken Baseball and USA Baseball.
