Mark Blakley Named New Public Defender

Mark E. Blakley has been appointed by Governor Bill Haslam as District Public Defender for the Eighth Judicial District, which serves Campbell, Claiborne, Fentress, Scott and Union counties.  Eighth Judicial District Criminal Court Judge E. Shayne Sexton administered the oath of office during a recent swearing in ceremony. Mr. Blakley was appointed to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Martha Yoakum.
At the time of his appointment, Mr. Blakley had been a part time assistant in the Public Defenders’ office for three years.  He handled cases in Campbell, Claiborne, Fentress and Union counties. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Blakley was a partner in the law firm of Stansberry, Petroff, Marcum & Blakley, P.C.
Mr. Blakley attended Carson Newman College on a football scholarship and graduated in 1983. He went on to earn his J.D. from the University of Memphis, Cecil C. Humphrey’s School of Law. Full story in this week’s Fentress Courier.
