PUBLIC NOTICE ADVERTISEMENT BOND RELEASE APPLICATION

Hood Coal Corporation, P.O. Box 97, Jamestown, Tennessee 38556 is applying for Phase I bond release on Permit No. 3139, which was issued on January 5, 2007.  The permit area for the Hoodtown Mine consists of 92.1 acres and is located in Fentress County on the Grimsley, TN USGS quadrangle map at latitude N36º 18’ 39” and longitude W84º 59’ 18”, approximately 3 miles north of the Grimsley community.  The collateral bond amount currently in effect is $119,000.  A bond release of $71,400 is being requested.  The bond release is based on completion of the following reclamation:

1. Backfilling, grading, seeding, and mulching of the mine site will be completed in accordance with the approved plans.

2. Backfilling, grading, seeding, and mulching of the disturbed areas will be completed in October of 2013.   Trees will be planted on the site during the next favorable growing season.

3. The reclaimed mine site will be revegetated with grasses, legumes, and trees in accordance with the approved plans.  Revegetation in this manner and permanent retention of the sediment basin supports the post mining land uses of undeveloped land, wildlife habitat, and recreation.

4. The approved post mining land uses for this site are undeveloped land, wildlife habitat, and recreation.

Written comments, objections, and requests for a public hearing or an informal conference may be submitted to the Office of Surface Mining, 710 Locust Street, Second Floor, Knoxville, Tennessee 37902 prior to November 30, 2013 which is 30 days following the last publication date.
