Lady Buffaloes Take Championship In White County Christmas Tournament

The Clarkrange Lady Buffaloes swept the White County Christmas Tourna-ment last week by taking impressive wins over Father Ryan, Rhea County, and White County.

In the opening round on December 20, the Lady Buffaloes  took on  Father Ryan, and posted a 49-31 win over the Class AA Lady Irish.

Clarkrange jumped out to a 15-9 first period lead, but both teams went cold in the second period, scoring only 4 points each, with the Lady Buffaloes holding a 19-13 halftime advantage.

Behind an 8-point effort by Kaylie Monday and 6 points by Hannah Garrett, the Lady Buffaloes pulled away to a commanding 20-point lead, 44-24, going into the final frame, and cruised to the 18-point win.

Kaylie Monday led the Clarkrange scoring and was also the game’s high scorer with 14 points, followed by Hannah Garrett with 12, Gracie Bush 9, Charity Crabtree 8, and Kassie Monday with 6 points.

Emily Carletello paced Father Ryan with 11 points, with Camille Kroll adding 5, Bree Thibeault, Ella Graham and Rachel Phan with 4 each, Page Graham 2, and Camryn Broussard adding 1 point.

The win advanced Clarkrange to the second round to take on Class AAA Rhea County, and again filled the role of giant killer, as the Class A Lady Buffaloes posted another impressive win, wasting no time in building up a big lead, as Gracie Bush had 8 first period points, including two 3-pointers, and Kaylie Monday 7 points, including a 3-pointer, to take a 24-8 lead and never looked back, continuing to lead 30-19 at the half, 41-32 at the end of the third period, and going on a 13-9 run in the fourth period to post the 54-41 win and advance to the finals against host club White County on Friday.

Gracie Bush led the Lady Buffaloes with 19 points, which included five 3-pointers, with Hannah Garrett and Kaylie Monday adding 13 each, Kassie Monday 4, Reese Stover 3, and Charity Crabtree with 2 points.

Micah Black led Rhea County with 18 points, with Mallory Hampton adding 9, Haley Cameron 6, Mary Welch with 5, and Maddie Smith with 3 points.

In the championship game on Friday night against the host 3-A White County Lady Warriors, the game started off slow, with neither team getting on the scoreboard until Hannah Garrett connected on a 3-pointer at the 4 minute mark of the opening period, and Kaylie Monday added a 3-pointer plus a layup to help lead the Lady Buffaloes to a 12-5 first period lead.

Charity Crabtree had a field goal and hit 4 of 4 from the free throw line, and Hannah Garrett added her second of four 3-pointers in the game to give Clarkrange a 25-17 halftime advantage.

ALL-TOURNAMENT:
Named to the All-Tournament team at the White County Christmas Tournament in Sparta last week included: Kassie and Kaylie Monday, Gracie Bush, and Hannah Garrett (MVP) of Clarkrange, and Gracie Dodgen, Kanden Reeves, and Hannah Leftwich of White County.

The Warriorettes made a brief run in the third period to close the gap to 5 points at one point before Clarkrange went back up by 11 to close the period at 38-27, as Garrett, Kassie Monday and Reese Stover each bagged 3-pointers.

With the Lady Warriors being forced to foul in the final period, the Lady Buffaloes hit 13 of 20 from the free throw line to put the game away and take the championship with a 65-48 win.

Hannah Garrett led the Clarkrange scoring and was also the game’s leading scorer with 18 points, followed by Kaylie and Kassie Monday each adding 13 points, Charity Crabtree and Reese Stover with 8 points each, and Gracie Bush adding 5 points.
