Lady Buffaloes Are District 6-A Champs!

The Clarkrange Lady Buffaloes captured the District 6-A Tournament championship Monday, February 18 in an exciting 43-40 win over the Clay County Lady Bulldogs at White County High School Gymnasium in Sparta.

The game was hard-fought all the way, with the Lady Buffaloes holding an 11-10 first period lead, and a 21-19 advantage at the half.

The game continued to be close through the third period, with Clarkrange continuing to lead through the third period, with the teams going into the final frame with the Lady Buffaloes still leading by 4 points at 30-26.

Clay County battled back to close the gap to one point with less than 2 minutes left,.

Clarkrange, normally a very good free throw shooting team, missed the front end of three one-and-one free throw opportunities, which could have put the game out of reach, before Kassie Monday hit two free throws with 50 seconds left to give the Lady Buffaloes a 3-point lead.

Kenzie Arms then hit a 3-pointer with 30 seconds left to tie the game at 39, aftetrwhich Clarkrange played for the last shot, getting off two shots before the final buzzer, but could not get one to fall.

In the overtime period, Clarkrange took the tip and ran off the clock, hoping for the last shot, with Kaylie Monday connecting on a 3-pointer with just over 2.6 seconds to play to give the Lady Buffaloes a 3-point lead at 42-39….
