Kory Wheeler Advances In American Idol Competition

B6Xzh5CIUAALDk3Fentress County native Kory Wheeler was working his Sunday shift at the Bongo Java coffeehouse in Nashville when a producer for the Fox network’s American Idol came into the shop.

Kory told the producer “You know, it’d be a really cool story if you let me come audition. They did, and here I am.”

Wheeler than sang for judges Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez, and Harry Connick, Jr., after which he rushed through the Music City  Center to tell his co-workers that he was “Going to Hollywood!”

Wheeler, 25,  the son of Craig and Pam Wheeler of Jamestown and a 2006 graduate of York Institute, is one of Season 14’s first golden-ticket winners, and first performed last week on American Idol.

In addition to holding auditions in five major cities, including Nashville, Idol producers have also accepted contestants through online auditions and “silver ticket” promotions, in which local fox affiliates hold their own auditions.

While the schedule for Kory’s next performance is not know, it is expected to be within the next few weeks.

The Courier will attempt to let our readers know when Kory will make his appearance on TV from Hollywood.
