In observance of National Manufacturing Day, the Fentress County Industrial Development Board and the Fentress County Chamber of Commerce co-hosted a luncheon for local manufacturers on Friday, October 7 with a luncheon at Progressive Savings Bank in Jamestown.

Also present were representatives from the TN Department of Economic & Community Development and TVA.

Brooksie Colson Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Rural Development in the TN Department of Economic & Community Development commented:  “I came to Fentress County today to help them celebrate National Manufacturing Day, which Tennessee has turned into National Manufacturing Week.  We’ve been traveling across the state this week visiting manufacturers and vititing schools to talk about manufacturing as a career.

“Today we’re here at Progressive Savings Bank for the appreciation lunch to thank the industries in this community for all they do and the jobs they create here.  One of eight jobs in Tennessee is in manufacturing, and is one of the biggest industries in the stae, with good paying jobs that support a lot of families across the state,” she added.

“A good example of that is an industry that’s here today — Micro Metals, that has been here since the 1970’s, and is one of the largest employers with some 100 employees, so they support a lot of families here in this community.”
