Funeral Services Set For R. Glenn Burnett, age 97

Glenn Burnett, age 97, of Jamestown, TN, passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Ben Atchley Veterans’ Home in Knoxville, TN.

Mr. Robert Glenn Burnett was born in Jefferson County, TN. He was the eldest of seven children.

In 1942 he joined the U.S. Navy, where he served as a diesel mechanic on the USS Guardfish stationed at Honolulu, Hawaii.  The USS Guardfish received two Presidential Citations for the most tonnage sunk during World War II.  This was on 13 war patrols out of Pearl Harbor.  This was one of the proudest moments of his life.

After his service in the U.S. Navy in World War II, he joined the family business, Burnett Produce in Talbott, TN. As the company grew, they moved to Morristown and later purchased a subsidiary in Jamestown, Tennessee,  Jamestown Broilers.  Glenn managed this operation from 1962 to 1977.

In retirement he loved to fish, hunt for bargains, travel and enjoy good meals. He frequently went to Georgia, Florida and South Carolina to pick up produce for his grocery stores in Clarkrange and Allardt.
