Funeral Services Held Oct. 25 For Floyd Cook

Mr. Floyd Cook, age 78, passed away  October 23, 2017 at his home following an extended illness.

Floyd was a member of the Jamestown Church of Christ.  He was the owner of Men’s Discounty Shop in Jamestown for 35+ years and also co-owned a clothing store with Bill Johnson for a number of years in Somerset, KY.

He enjoyed serving his community and was humbled by the patronage of his customers in Fentress and surrounding counties.

He was active in the development of youth baseball in Fentress County and served in different capacities on the local Little League and Babe Ruth boards.

His father, Bradley Cook, was a carpenter by trade and these traits were passed down to Floyd, of which many can be seen within the home he shared with his wife of 56 years, Patsy Jo (Cravens) Cook.

He possessed a special gift working with wood, be it small crafts or larger projects.  He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and from an early age could be found in the woods with some of his closest friends.  However, later in life what he enjoyed most was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He loved to attend their sporting events and was always present to witness their academic achievements.  His presence and companionship will truly be missed by those closest to him.

In addition to his wife, Patsy, he is survived by sons John Cook and wife Tammy and David Cook and fiancee Malinda; grandchildren Zachary Cook and wife Jessica; Morgan Stone and husband Steven, Gavan Cook and wife Kaci, Alex Cook and Bethany, and Brad Cook; great-grandchildren Silas, Gracen, and Maci.

He was preceded in death by parents, Bradley Cook and Beatrice (Upchurch) Cook, daughter-in-law Mary (Tipton) Cook, sister Reba Kirby, and special aunts Bennie (Upchurch) Delk and Marie (Upchurch) Williams.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Jennings Funeral Home Chapel with Tommy Johnson and Jimmy Wright officiating, with burial following in the Fentress Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers included Zachary Cook, Morgan Stone, Steven Stone, Gavan Cook, Alex Cook, and Brad Cook.

Honorary  pallbearers were J.L. “Red” Upchurch, Larry Guthrie, Bill Johnson, Jerry Dale Huff, Randy Roysden, Gary Smithson, Cecil Copley, Hollis Reeder, Don Ledbetter, John Haley, Charlie Long, Donald Potter, Joe Stewart, Mark Norman, and Robert Hamby.
