Fentress County School Board Meets In Routine Session

The Fentress County Board of Education met in regular monthly session on Monday, April 1 and took action on a number of items in a rather routine meeting.

Following the acceptance of the Director’s report, the board approved the hiring of Cody Phillips as a teaching assistant at York Elementary School.

Next, they accepted the low bid from Earthworks for mowing of all the school properties.

The board then authorized the executive committee to accept the renovation bid for the bus garage and the York Elementary School roof, which were to be opened on April 6 to allow the successful bidder to proceed in a timely fashion.

Under New Business, the board considered and approved two out-of-state trips for the Clarkrange softball team and the JROTC.

Next, the board approved a change in the 2012-13 school calendar making May 6 as a weather day on which students will not attend, but teachers will use this date as a professional development day.

They also amended the 2013-14 school calendar, which will be published in the local newspaper, for  training for teachers on the new reading system which was just purchased this year.
