Dragons Take 79-51 Win Over Nelson County, KY in Twin Lakes Tournament

After dropping close games to Monterey and Clinton County, KY in the opening round of the Twin Lakes  Christmas Tournament in Albany, KY last week, the York Dragons rebounded in the consolation round by posting an impressive 79-51 win over Nelson County, KY on Tuesday, December 20.

Led by an 11-point first peroid effort by sophomore Landrick Leffew, including three 3-pointers, the Dragons jumped out to a 19-7 first period lead and never looked back.

Case Moody, Gareth Moody, and Luke Patton all got a hot hand in the second period, scoring 8, 6, and 5 points, respectively, to propel the Dragons to a 26-18 run and a 45-25  halftime lead, and Case Moody took control in the third period with 11 points as the Dragons went on a 20-15 run to extend the their lead to 65-40.

Freshman Noah Smith came off the bench in the fourth period to  spark a 14-11 run with 7 points, as York continued to pull away and post the 28-point win.

Leffew led the York scoring and was the game’s leading scorer with 22 points, with Case Moody adding 19, Greth Moody 10, Luke Patton 8, Isaac Peavyhouse and Noah Smith with 7 each, and Damon Johnson and Roger Meadows with 3 points each.

Max Ryan paced Nelson County with 15 points, with Kameron Crawford adding 10 to lead Nelson County.

The York teams will see their next action this week when they open the Hall’s Sgt. York Southeastern Invitational Tournament at York Institute, with the Dragonettes set to open the girl’s bracket at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 29 when they go up against Clarksville Academy.

The Dragons will open the Boy’s competition at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Decem-ber 29 when they will take on Owlsey Co. (KY).
