Dragons Open Season With 26-14 Win Over Jackson Co.

The York Dragon Foot-ball team opened their 2019 season on August 23 as they traveled to Gaines-boro to take on the Jackson County Blue Devils, and came away with a 26-14 win.

The teams battled to a scoreless deadlock in the first period, with the first score of the game coming with 8:36 in the second period when Cole Parkerson ran it in from four yards for the Blue Devils to cap a 13-play, 94-yard drive to go up 6-0 after the conversion run failed.

York responded with  5-play, 60-yard drive to knot the score two minutes later when Thomas Miller broke loose for a 40-yard scamper to knot the score at 6-6 after York’s point after kick was blocked, with the teams remaining deadlocked at the half.

Following intermission, the Dragons opened the third period with an impressive 56-yard scoring drive as Thomas Miller took it in from 17 yards out  just over 2 minutes into the second half, to go up 12-6, but once again the conversion attempt failed.

Jackson County respon-ded with a 7-play, 71-yard scoring drive, as Eli Burris went to the air, completing four straight passes, including a 38-yard completion to Justin Davis, to move to the York 5, where Cole Parkerson took it in two plays later and Burris connected with Parkerson for the 2-point conversion to give the Blue Devils a 14-12 advantage  with 6:42 left in the third period

The teams then traded punts on their following possessions, and there was no further scoring in the third period.

On their opening drive of the final period, the Dragons put together a 9-play, 58-yard drive to take the lead  at 20-14 when Ben Cooper took it in from 15 yards out, and Thomas Miller ran the conversion.

After an exchange of posessions, the Dragons began play at their 43, and quickly moved downfield to score in 3 plays, as Zack Gibson picked up 15 yards for a first down, Ben Cooper added 7 yards to the 35, and then Gibson took it in for the score to give the Dragons a 26-14 advantage.
