Dragonettes See Season End in District Tourney With 54-49 Loss to Livingston

The York Dragonettes, who had finished the regular season  in third place in the District, and drew a bye for the first round, saw their season come to an end on Thursday, February 15, as they were upset by the 6th-seed Livingston Lady Wildcats by the score of 54-49.

After being idle a week, after playing their final regular season game on February 8 at Upperman, the Dragonettes were sluggish getting started, while the Lady Wildcats, who had defeated Smith County two days earlier on February 13,  in play-in game, seemed much sharper to start the game, pulling out to a 13-4 first period lead.

York settled down in the second period, and behind an 8-point effort by Hannah Conatser and Haylee Johnson adding 6 points, outscored the Lady Wildcats 20-13 to pull to within 2 points at 26-24 at the half.

York again went flat in the third period, scoring only 5 points, which allowed the Lady Wildcats to pull back out to a 6-point lead going into the final frame.

In the fourth period, the Lady Dragons mounted a comeback effort and outscored the Lady Wildcats 20-19, but could no regain the lead, as the Lady Wildcats hit 15 of 19 free throws down the stretch when York was forced to foul to hold on to the lead and preserve the 5-point win, 54-49 to advance to the semifinals and a berth in the Region 4-AA Tournament.

York was led by Haylee Johnson, who had 17 points  to also take game-high honors, with Hannah Conatser adding 12, Isabella Blevins 7, Harli Smith 6, Mikaela Reagan with 4, Shelby Beaty 2, and Carly Tipton adding 1 point.

Leah Parker took top scoring honors for the Lady Wildcats with 16 points, with Amy Rogers adding 14, Carson Hammock 10, Emily Gean 8, Bradie Melton 5, and Suzanna Hayes with 1 point.
