Dragonettes’ Season Ends In 68-45 Loss To Smith County In District Quarterfinals

YAI_TNP2679The York Dragonettes saw their 2016-17 basketball season end on Wednesday, February 15 with a 68-45 loss to third-seed Smith County in the quarterfinal round of the District 8-AA Tournament at Tennessee Tech.

Coming off a big win over Cannon County on Monday night, the Dragonettes were flat starting out, as the shots just wouldn’t fall, which allowed the hot-shooting Lady Owls to pull out to an 18-7 first period advantage, and never looked back.

Smith County continued to pull away in the second period with another barrage of 3-pointers (eight in the first half) to extend their lead to 39-18 at the half.

Lexi Smith’s basket with just under 3 minutes to go in the third period cut the Smith County lead to 15, which would be as close at the Dragonettes would come.

The teams continued to exchange baskets through the third period, with both teams scoring 14 points in the period, with the Lady Owls leading 53-32 going into the final period and cruising to the 23-point win as they outscored the Dragonettes 15-13 in the final frame.YAI_TNP2879
