Clarkrange Teams Take Big Wins Over Monterey In Homecoming

Both the Clarkrange Lady Buffaloes and Buffaloes took big wins over Monterey during Clarkrange’s Homecoming on Tuesday, January 19 before a packed home court.

In the girl’s game, the Lady Buffaloes took a big lead early and never looked back in taking the 30-point win over the Lady Wildcats 63-33.

Behind a 6-point effort by Hannah Garrett, Clarkrange pulled out to a 20-8 first period lead.  Garrett scored 10 more of her game-high 20 points in the second period as the Lady Buffaloes pulled away to a 35-16 halftime advantage, and continued to pull away in the second half, outscoring their visitors 28-17 to post the big District 7-A win.

In addition to Garrett’s 20 points, Katelyn Beaty added 11, Zoie Crouch added 9, Charity Crabtree 8, Gracie Bush 6, Emily Beaty 5, and Breanna Bush 4 points.

Courtney Bilbrey led Monterey with 13 points, with Taylor Hite adding 8, Allie Ragle 6, Makenzie Hite 4, and Stephanie Hull 2 points.

With the win, Clarkrange improved to 11-9 overall and to 2-2 in District 7-A while Monterey dropped to 4-15 overall and to 0-3 in the district.

In the boys’ game, the Wildcats jumped out to an early lead and doubled the score on the Buffaloes in the first period, 18-9, but saw Clarkrange come back with a 22-12 run in the second period, behind a 10-point effort by Ryan Miller and two 3-pointers by Austin Monday to take a 31-30 halftime advantage.

Hunter Crouch, who had been held to 5 points in the first half, came alive in the third frame, pumping in 12 points, as Clarkrange outscored their visitors 22-10 to pull away to a 53-40 lead going into the final period.

The Wildcats, however were not ready to roll over and play dead, as they mounted a furious fourth period rally to pull to within 2 points before free throws by Austin Monday and Hunter Crouch put the game away in the closing seconds of the game to hold on and take the 4-point win, 69-65.

Crouch led the Buffaloes and was the game’s high scorer with 21 points, with Ryan Miller adding 18, Coleman Linkous 16, Austin Monday 8, Cobe Hayes 4, and Emory Lane with 2 points.

Monterey had three players in double figures, with Tyrus West and Zeb Randolph sharing scoring honors with 18 points each and Dalton Coleman 17, followed by Cade Painter with 9 points and Parker Payne adding 3.
