Clarkrange Teams Split With Monterey; Take Big Wins Over Trousdale County

The Clarkrange basketball teams saw their first District 7-A action last week when they hosted Monterey on Tuesday night and took a split, with the Lady Buffaloes crushing the visiting Lady Wildcats 67-18, and the Buffaloes dropping a 63-57 decision to a strong Wildcat team.

In the girls’ game, it was total domination by the Lady Buffaloes, as they jumped out to a 22-8 first period lead behind a 7-point effort by Kaylie Monday, and led 45-11 at the half, as Hannah Garrett led a 23-3 run with 9 second period points.

The Lady Buffaloes continued to pull away in the third period, outscoring their visitors 18-2 in the third period, and let their reserves play the entire fourth period.

Hannah Garrett led the scoring with 17 points, with Kaylie Monday adding 13, Kassie Monday 12, Gracie Bush 10, Chloe Howard 7, Charity Crabtree and Reece Stover adding 3 each and Lexi Pierce 2 points.

Annie Hudson led the Monterey scoring with 5 points, Faith Walker added 4, Danielle D’Agostino and Jessie Walker  had 3 points each, Lauren Clarke 2 points, and Stephanie Hull with 1 point.

The boys’ game was close all the way, with both teams starting off slow, and Monterey holding a 10-8 first period advantage.

Michael Cody had 6 points in the second period to lead the Wildcats to a 24-21 halftime advantage.

Monterey continued to pull away in the third period to hold a 7-point lead, 39-32 going into the fourth period, and held off a strong run by the Buffaloes in the final frame to post the 6-point win.

Nick Hall paced the Buffaloes with 17 points, with Austin Monday adding 12 and Sean Michalski with 10, followed by Briley Stephens, Joshua Bilbrey and Daderick Phillips with 6 points each.

Michael Cody led the Wildcats and was the game’s leading scorer with 20 points, with Tyrus West adding 16, Dalton Coleman 10, Parker Payne and Grayson Randolph with 5 points each, Peyton West 3, and Cade Painter and Paxton Payne each adding 2 points.

On Friday night, the Clarkrange teams hosted Trousdale County, and posted two impressive District wins, with the Lady Buffaloes crushing their visitors 91-26, and the Buffaloes posting a strong 69-50 win over the Yellow Jackets.

In the girls’ game Gracie Bush led a 31-7 first period run with 14 points, including four 3-pointers, to essentially put the game away.

Bush hit seven 3-pointers in the game to take high scoring honors with 23 points.

The Lady Buffaloes hit an incredible 21 three-pointers in the contest, in addition to Bush’s seven bonus baskets, Chloe Howard four, Reece Stover three, Lexi Pierce and Makenzie Pile 2 each, and Hannah Garrett, Kaylie Monday and Kassie Monday each contributed one 3-pointer each.

The Lady Buffaloes built up a 55-14 halftime lead and held a 78-21 lead going into the final frame.

In addition to Bush’s 23 points, Chloe Howard added 14 for the Lady Buffaloes, with Kaylie Monday and Reece Stover 11 each, Makenzie Pile 10, Lexi Pierce 8 points, and Hannah Garrett and Kassie Monday had 7 points each.

Chloe Donoho led Trousdale County with 10 points.

In the boys’ game, the Buffaloes took a 15-8 first period lead and never looked back, as they went on a 23-11 second period run led by Austin Monday’s 9 points, continued to pull away in the third period to take a 53-32 lead, and cruised to the 19-point win, 69-50.
