Clarkrange Teams Split With Cumberland Co.; Sweep Oneida

The Clarkrange basketball teams hosted two strong Cumberland Co. teams on Tuesday, November 28 and took a split, with the Lady Jets holding off a furious comeback effort by the Lady Buffaloes to take a 58-53 win, and the Buffaloes coming back from as much as a10-point deficit to pull out a last-minute 56-54 win.

In the girls’ game, the Lady Jets held a 16-15 first period advantage led by 6 points by Gracee Dishman.  Dishman added 11 second period points, including 8 from the free throw line to increase Cumberland County’s lead to 27-19 at the half.

Dishman added 7 more points and Kierra Williams and Marce Kerley added 5 points each in the third period as the Lady Jets increased their lead to 51-29 before Clarkrange mounted a comeback that saw Reece Stover pump in 12 points to pull back to within 4 points with less than a minute left before the Lady Jets hit a free throw in the closing seconds  to hold on and take a 5-point win, 58-53.

Reece Stover and Kassie Monday shared scoring honors with 14 points each, with Charity Crabtree adding 13, Hannah Garrett 6, Kaylie Monday 4, and Gracie Bush 2 points.

Gracee Dishman led the Lady Jets and was the game’s high scorer with 29 points, followed by Kierra Wilson with 9, Jessica Hedgecoth and Marce Kerly with 7 points each and Addison Wilson adding 6 points.

early 10-point deficit to pull out a last-minute 56-54 win.

Clarkrange got off to a slow start, which allowed the Jets to take a 17-10 first quarter advantage, and behind an 8-point effort by Silas Clark and a couple of 3-pointers by Braden Qualls, Cumberland County held a 35-27 advantage at the half.

The Buffaloes came out in the third period and outscored their visitors 14-8 to pull to within 2 points at 43-41 going into the final frame, setting up a fantastic finish which saw the Buffaloes battle back to pull out the 56-54 victory in the final seconds  of the contest.

The Buffaloes had balanced scoring with four players in double figures, led by Austin Monday with 14, Nick Hall 12, Sean Michalski and Briley Stephens with 10 points each,  Daderick Phillips adding 6 points, and Joshua Bilbrey 4 points.

Josh Dykes and Silas Clark paced the Jets with 21 and 20 points, respectively, while Lee Hall added 7 and Braden Qualls 6 points.

On Friday, December 1, the Clarkrange teams traveled to Oneida for a rematch with the Indians and Lady Indians which they had hosted on Monday night, and took a sweep, with the Lady Buffaloes taking an easy 76-36 win, and the Buffaloes defeating the Indians by a 59-46 score.

In the girls’ game the Lady Buffaloes dominated the contest, taking a 24-9 first period lead behind a 10-point effort by Kassie Monday and 8 points by Charity Crabtree.

Clarkrange continued to pull away, going on a 29-5 run in the second period as Hannah Garrett and Charity Crabtree each pumped in 7 points, Reese Stover bagged a couple of 3-pointers and Kassie Monday added 5 more points, to hold a commanding 53-14 halftime lead, and never looked back, as they cruised to a 40-point win.
