Clarkrange Teams Compete In Sonic Holiday Shootout in White County

The Clarkrange Lady Buffloes and Buffaloes both competed last week in the Sonic Holiday Shootout at White County High School in Sparta, with the girls taking third place, and the boys taking sixth place.

The Lady Buffaloes opened the tournament on Wednesday, December 19 with an impressive 74-23 win over the Western Kentucky Trailblazers.

Clarkrange was on fire in the first period, quickly pulling away and holding a 33-2 lead going into the second period, behind a 13-point effort by Kassie Monday.

Makenzie Pile got a hot hand in the second period, scoring 11 of her 13 points to lead Clarkrange to a commanding 55-8 halftime lead.

With reserves playing the entire second half, the Lady Buffaloes continued to pull away to post the 41-point win, 74-23.

Kassie Monday and Makenzie Pile shared scoring honors with 13 points each, with Lexi Pierce and Amber Peterson adding 11 each, Kaylie Monday 6, Gracie Bush and Beth Conatser with 4 each, Reece Stover 3, Chloe Howard, Zoey Smith, Zoie Winningham and Megan Sarge adding  2 points each and August King with 1 point.

Sarah Hammerstone led Western KY with 8 points, with Kassidy Ramsey adding 6, Natalie Shelton 5,  and Bekah Thomas and Amberlee Ellis adding 2 points each.

Also on Wedneday, the Buffaloes took on a strong Rhea County team and came up on the short end of a 50-32 score.

Rhea County jumped out to a 14-9 first period lead and extended the lead to 27-18 at the half.

Both teams went cold in the third period, with Rhea County only managing to score 5 points and Clarkrange 4 points.

In the fourth period, Rhea Co. continued to pull away, outscoring the Buffaloes 18-12 to post the 18-point win, 50-32.

Seth Henderson  led the Buffaloes with 13 points, and was the only Clarkrange player to score in double figures.  Nick Hll added 6, Keith Whited, Gatlyn LaRue, Anthony Cottle and Brandon Daugherty added 3 points each, and Nate Hall had 1 point.
