Bulldogs – Warriors Battle

senior-bulldog2Saturday, September 24, 2016, the Fentress County Bulldogs traveled to Sparta to take on the White County Warriors for the last regular game of the season.  The game highlighted the east and west division leaders.  The teams were evenly matched, with the Bulldogs running 36 offensive plays for a total of 159 yards and the Warriors running 30 offensive plays for a total of 192 yards.  Both teams played very hard and ended with the White County Warriors coming out on top 16 – 6.

To start the game, the Bulldogs kicked off to the Warriors, after the Bulldogs won the coin toss and deferred.  On their first offensive play of the game, the Warriors fumble and the Bulldogs come up with the ball.  On the Bulldogs first offensive play, quarterback (8) Barger holds on to the ball and takes it all the way to the goal line for a 32 yard touchdown.  The Bulldogs lead 6 – 0 in the first 30 seconds of the game.  The Warriors responded quickly on a three play drive which included a 71 yard senior-bulldogtouchdown run and a two point conversion to lead 8 – 6 with six minutes and 30 seconds still remaining in the first quarter.  The Bulldogs responded with a strong drive and run in a touchdown.  This touchdown was called back on a holding penalty.  After explosive plays to start the game, both defenses settled in and the remaining of the first quarter was scoreless.

The second quarter continued to be a defensive battle with both teams making little forward progress until the final minute in the first half.   The Warriors broke loose with a 25 yard touchdown run, and successfully completed another 2 point conversion.  The first half ended with the Warriors leading 16 – 6.  The third and fourth quarters consisted of three, long, time-consuming drives by the Bulldogs and two, long, time-consuming drives by the Warriors.   Both offenses were able to make positive yardage but ultimately, the defenses held both offenses scoreless. The game ended with the Warriors winning 16 -6.
