Buffaloes See Season End With Loss To Monterey in District 7-A Opener

CHSIMG_1060The Clarkrange Buffaloes saw their 2016-17 basketball season come to an end in the first round of the District 7-A Basketball Tournament at Livingston Academy on Tuesday, February 14.

The Buffaloes had a disasterous start, as if a lid had been put over the goal, and nothing would fall through most of the first period, with Nick Hall’s lone basket being the only 2 points that Clarkrange could muster in the opening period, while Monterey pumped in 21 points to take a commanding lead.

After that, Clarkrange managed to stay even with the Wildcats and actually outscored the Wildcats by 2 points for the other three periods.

Dalton Coleman had 8 first period points, with Cade Painter pumping in a couple of 3-CHSIMG_9667pointers and Tyrus West another bonus basket to lead the Wildcats on the first period run.

Clarkrange responded with a 15-9 second period run, led by 5 points from Sean Michalski and 4 points each by Cobe Hayes and Nick Hall to cut the lead to13 at the half, 30-17, and continued to close the gap through the third period, as Austin Monday led an 18-8 charge  with 8 points, including two big 3-pointers, to narrow the margin to 38-35 going into the final frame.

The difference came in the fourth period, when the Buffaloes, were forced to foul, and the Wildcats took advantage of this, hitting 11 of 17 free throws to preserve their lead and post the 56-48 win.
